DirtyPilot.com presents Daniel Johnston Black & White.
A survey of drawings by Daniel from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s
Don’t miss this opportunity to see over 60 rare drawings spanning 4 decades.

djrightniowOver the last few years, Daniel’s drawings are showing in larger and larger galleries and prices for his work are climbing steadily higher. Personally, what astounds me about Daniel’s work is the fact that he is an absolute unending wellspring of creativity, the likes of which I have never witnessed before. No creative blocks here… what he thinks and feels gushes out on to the paper, or into a song. But, perhaps the most incredible part of the story is that all of the superlatives that have been used in describing how wonderful his music is can also be used for his artwork. I can’t think of one other artist in history who has so excelled in two such diverse artistic fields: visual art and music. The only one who comes to mind as a possible contender is John Lennon.ALSO CHECK OUT NEW PRINTS BY DANIEL JOHNSTON DIRTYPILOT.COM OPEN 24/7

For those of you who have never had the pleasure to experience the Contemporary and Urban artworld of Boston, here is a little insight. As collectors who frequent  DirtyPilot well know we are located outside of Boston. In the mid 1990’s we had a beautiful gallery on Bostons prestigious Newbury Street across from the Ritz Carlton. We showed some fantastic artists like Crash, Daze, Basquiat, Haring, Kenny Scharf, Mark Kostabi and others. Though working with the artists and clients were a pure joy, others thought the art work we were bringing to Boston was not worthy of this prestigious address. After standing toe to toe with several other gallery owners in our building and absolutely no support from the local papers and press we decided the battle was too large for us to fight alone. Needless to say I have never visited a Boston art gallery since. Attached is a link written by writer and artist Caleb Neelon.

Please take a moment to read. Although Caleb is much younger and may not have been a part of the Boston art scene 15 years ago, it amazes me to see that nothing has changed and if anything it sounds worse. The case against Shepard is a travesty for not only Shepard, but for all of us that call Boston our home and have to live in what I term (at least for me) a Contemporary Cultural Desert!

Please read as Caleb explains the situation very well. A MUST READ!

California’s own Jeff McMillan (work above) and graffiti legend, EZO (work below) are the latest creators to grace the digital walls of www.DirtyPilot.com for a showing on view now through April 15, 2009.

McMillan’s Zuben Rat Salad and Friends features new acrylic paintings on paper along with a limited edition print, while EZO’s Work on Paper is just that: a collection of varied and beautiful drawings and paintings on paper.

EZO has been writing graffiti since 1979, and he began his first comic strip in the seminal Latino culture magazine, Latin New York, in 1984 called Graffiti Tales. He reenergized and reorganized the Graffiti Hall of Fame in Spanish Harlem to its former glory in painting the entire location at once by enlisting the top NYC train era artists from Stan 153, to Seen, to Tats Cru, and 30 other artists (which hadn’t been done since it’s inception in 1982.) EZO’s accomplishments contiunue, but you’ll have to check out the rest of his work and read all about him in checking out his latest work now online with Dirty Pilot at www.dirtypilot.com
